Royal Malaysia Police teams up with Pos Malaysia and Whoscall in strategic partnership to combat parcel scams

    Pos Malaysia Berhad and Whoscall, a leading anti-scam application powered by Gogolook, today announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) as part of the #ScamFreeMalaysia initiative.

    This proactive collaboration involves Whoscall registering all operational numbers from Pos Malaysia, including those used by postmen, as ‘verified numbers’. As a result, Whoscall users can trust incoming calls and SMS from Pos Malaysia, safeguarding Malaysians against the increasing threat of parcel scams.

    The MoU was signed by Manwoo Joo, chief operating officer of Gogolook and Hj. Zaini Yahman, director of operations, Pos Malaysia witnessed by CP Datuk Sri Ramli Mohamed Yoosuf, director of Bukit Aman Commercial Criminal Investigation Department (CCID) of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM).

    Besides the number verification, the MoU also outlines a partnership between Pos Malaysia and Whoscall to launch a Parcel Scam Awareness Campaign, including an extensive nationwide roadshow to educate the public about parcel scams.

    Commenting on the collaboration, CP Datuk Sri Ramli said, “We commend the efforts of Pos Malaysia and Whoscall for this proactive step in combating online scams, especially those involving phone scams. The #ScamFreeMalaysia initiative is a testament to our collective efforts in fighting online crimes and protecting the public. The collaboration between Pos Malaysia and Whoscall represents a significant step in the ongoing efforts to combat online scams, including phone scams in our country”.

    According to CP Datuk Sri Ramli, a total of 8,011 phone scam cases were investigated from 2021 to 2023 involving losses of RM440,971,870.50. Of these, 448 cases were related to the impersonation of Pos Laju officials, with a loss value of RM27,186,773.82.

    He added, “In the year 2024, up until July, a total of 1,411 phone scam cases have been investigated, with a loss value of RM64,468,952.59. Of these, 87 cases were related to the impersonation of Pos Laju officers, with a loss value of RM2,999,714.42. These figures clearly indicate that phone scams require serious attention. Therefore, it is important that we leverage technology to protect the public in the ever-evolving cyber environment. The PDRM will always be ready to cooperate with all stakeholders in safeguarding Malaysians from all types of fraud.”

    Pos Malaysia’s director of operations Hj.
