According to Deputy Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities II Datuk Willie Anak Mongin, more than 50 technologies are ready for commercialization in order to promote the use of mechanization and automation.
The ministry is also increasing R&D in the agricultural commodity sector, such as CANTAS, an oil palm fruit harvesting machine that helps to speed up the harvesting process. Meanwhile, a soil filling machine (SOFIL) capable of producing crop media at a rate of up to 2000 polybags per 8 hours, is used in the rubber industry.
Finally, the Minister stated that all of these initiatives have helped to address the issue of labour shortages in the plantation industry.
