Malaysian Parliament: Technological discovery

    Kulim Bandar Baharu MP Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution asked the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovations to state the new areas of R&D that the country has an advantage in technological discovery, the number of patterns that have been registered and the success stories of its commercialization.

    According to Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba, Malaysia has advantages in the technological industry, including sensors covering devices and application systems such as colour sensors, humidity sensors, and others.

    Besides that, the use of artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, data analytic, neurotechnology, the Internet of Things (Iot), nanotechnology, remote sensing, robotics, and drones are among the others.

    Moreover, Malaysia is also involved in the development of new technologies. A total of 20,422 patent applications from 2019 to September 2021, with 18,609 granted patents for regional and international business markets. According to trends, the most patents are granted in three areas; chemistry and metals, human needs, and operational execution and transportation.
