BEIJING, Dec. 5, 2018 — EasyStack, with the Linux Foundation and over 30 global technology leaders, announces the formation of a new foundation to support Ceph open source community contributors in Ceph Day, Berlin, Nov. 12, 2018.
The Ceph project develops a unified distributed storage system providing applications with object, block, and file system interfaces. Efficient, agile, and massively scalable, Ceph significantly lowers the cost of storing enterprise information in the private cloud and provides high availability to any object, file, and block data. Ceph is used by cloud providers and enterprises around the world. The Ceph Foundation will organize and distribute financial contributions in a coordinated, vendor-neutral fashion for immediate community benefit. This will help galvanize rapid adoption, training and in-person collaboration across the Ceph ecosystem.
As a leading innovator of open source cloud computing in China, not only is EasyStack deeply involved in the Ceph project, EasyStack actively contributes to Ceph code, promotes Ceph use cases as part of product delivery, and continues to use Ceph as an important component of the cloud computing infrastructure platform for continuous product innovation. EasyStack has continuously optimized Ceph’s performance and reliability on the EasyStack cloud platform, providing stable, agile, flexible and efficient cloud computing products for enterprise customers such as finance, government, and manufacturing.
“Ceph has a long track record of success when it comes to helping organizations with effectively managing high growth and expanding data storage demands,” said Jim Zemlin, Executive Director of the Linux Foundation. “Under the Linux Foundation, the Ceph Foundation will be able to harness investments from a much broader group to help support the infrastructure needed to continue the success and stability of the Ceph ecosystem.”
“Today’s launch of the Ceph Foundation is a testament to the strength of a diverse open source community coming together to address the explosive growth in data storage and services,” said Sage Weil, Ceph co-creator, project leader.
Liu Guohui, co-founder and CTO of EasyStack, said: “As the leader of open source cloud computing in China, EasyStack has maintained its momentum in contributions to the open source community and promotes the productization of open source technologies. As a founding member of the Ceph Foundation, EasyStack will continue to drive the creation of a broader ecosystem based on Ceph technology that provides enterprise customers with open, stable, reliable, high-performance cloud computing products and services.”
