The Malaysian Cricket Association (MCA) today pledged to “a new era of gender equality in cricket” at the Ramadan breaking of the fast event with the Minister of Youth and Sports Malaysia, Hannah Yeoh, which was held at the Bayuemas Oval in Klang, Selangor.
The pledge was signed by MCA President Mohammed Iqbal Kassim Ali, MCA Chief Executive Officer Dinesh Muthuraman, Captain of the Women’s National Cricket Team Winifred A. Duraisingam, Vice Captain of the Women’s National Cricket Team Mas Elysa, Captain of the Men’s National Cricket Team Ahmad Faiz Mohamad Noor, and Vice Captain of the Men’s National Cricket Team Virandeep Singh.
Witnessed by Hannah, the agreement stated that “Malaysia Cricket supports gender equality in cricket and as cricket is developing at (a) rapid pace, there is no better time than the present to undertake and ensure: all our athletes have a safe space to practice and develop their talents; fair treatment in all aspects, be it remuneration or progress, regardless of gender, colour or creed; to be a lifeline for our athletes through providing equal opportunities in education and job opportunities; to inculcate values of honour and respect for all mankind and for (the) country; to ensure that no one is left behind because of gender, colour or creed.”
The event was attended by all men’s and women’s national cricket players and their coaches, Malaysian Cricket Association members, as well as media representatives. Also present was Klang councillor for Kota Bayu Emas, Kanmani Letchumanan.
