KIRK wins JCU Technology Innovation Complex Competition

KIRK, in association with Charles Wright Architects and i4 Architecture, are excited to announce our recent success in the competition for the JCU Technology Innovation Complex in Townsville.

James Cook University Technology Innovation Complex (JCU TIC) replaces 20,000 m² of conventional learning & research spaces with 10,000 m² of new, innovative pedagogical space.

An exciting and transformative opportunity, not just for the university but the North Queensland community and on a global scale, for the tropical regions of the world. Architecture that demonstrates performance and innovation that puts JCU at the forefront of tropical innovation – nationally and internationally.

TIC is the next generation of pedagogical innovation space – an exciting opportunity for JCU to take the lead in teaching, learning and research.Improved utilisation tools enhance multi-modal, & social learning spaces – flexible areas where students, academics, and industry participants can dynamically interact to cross-pollinate and develop ideas.

Creating a new sustainability benchmark for tropical buildings and for the tropical campus, TIC demonstrates sustainable design as innovation with an integrated design response from first principles that capitalizes on the natural environment.
A catalyst project that will redefine and highlight the future possibilities of the campus with a unique architectural response specific to the tropics – a knowledge centre for tropical architecture.

TIC is at the industry crossroads. As such, it will become a key identifier and define the JCU campus.
