This visit is one of many community engagement initiatives that Lynas Malaysia has implemented following the Pakatan Harapan government’s Executive Review Committee’s recommendation to increase opportunities to provide accurate and factual information on our operations.
Today’s site visits involved presentations from a number of Lynas’ Rare Earths experts as well as local suppliers whose businesses assist Lynas Malaysia to sustainably produce Rare Earth materials. Rare Earth materials are essential to many of Malaysia’s 4.0 Industries.
Lynas Malaysia has contributed to the creation over 4,000 direct and indirect jobs through its operations and 97% of Lynas’ employees are Malaysians. The Malay Consultative Council (Majlis Perundingan Melayu) visit is the latest in a series of visits to the Lynas Malaysia plant. Over the past 6 months, Lynas has had the pleasure of hosting over 500 visitors to the plant in Malaysia, attendees included the Malaysia Australian Business Council, Austrade Malaysia, Institute of Engineers Malaysia, Pahang Institute of Chemistry, IAEA Postgraduates in Radiation Protection and Safety and Royal Military College Alumni.
Lynas Malaysia has also issued a number of invitations to other Malaysian NGOs and looks forward to welcoming them to the Kuantan plant in the future. Dato Mashal Ahmad, Lynas Malaysia’s Managing Director and VP Malaysia, commented: “We were delighted to welcome The Malay Consultative Council to our plant today. We hope this visit will encourage other NGOs to visit and learn about the importance of the rare earths industry in Malaysia to support the continued economic development of Malaysia for the benefit of its people.”
Lynas Malaysia has been the subject of four national and international scientific reviews, all of which have found its operations to be low risk and compliant with relevant regulations.
