MMMC – Introduction to writing Cochrane review (Protocol Development)

Melaka – Manipal Medical College (MMMC) will continue its commitment to the sustainable development of the medical sector in Malaysia by conducting workshop on  “Introduction to writing Cochrane review (Protocol Development)”

Cochrane is a 24-year-old, international, independent not-for-profit organisation. It is dedicated to publishing up-to-date and accurate information about the effects of healthcare readily available worldwide. It produces and disseminates systematic reviews of healthcare interventions and promotes the search for evidence in the form of clinical trials and studies on interventions. Its functioning depends upon the voluntary contribution of thousands of authors and is supported by editorial bases and methodologists. Its impact factor is 6.124.

Cochrane systematic reviews are on primary research in human health care. They investigate the effects of interventions for disease prevention, treatment and rehabilitation. They also assess the accuracy of a diagnostic test for a given condition in a specific patient group and setting. They are internationally recognised to be of the highest standard in evidence based health care. Reviews published in Cochrane help translate clinical trials into health policies and guidelines.

Each systematic review addresses a clearly formulated question. For each review, all the existing primary research on a topic that meets pre-determined selection criteria is meticulously searched for and collated. They are then assessed using stringent guidelines, to establish whether or not there is conclusive evidence. The reviews are updated regularly, ensuring that decisions can be based on the most up-to-date and reliable evidence.
