Meraque pioneers social reintegration by hiring rehabilitated individuals as drone pilots, aligned with Malaysia’s Budget 2025 goals

Meraque Group (Meraque), a leader in Malaysian robotics solutions, has launched an innovative Social Reintegration Programme aimed at hiring rehabilitated individuals as drone pilots.

This initiative, developed in collaboration with the Social Security Organisation (SOCSO or PERKESO) and the Malaysian Prison Department, provides a pathway for individuals to gain valuable skills and reintegrate into society, directly aligning with Malaysia’s Budget 2025 commitment to create employment opportunities for vulnerable groups, including ex-offenders.

The programme reflects key government efforts announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in Budget 2025, which include support for these groups through MyFutureJobs, MySTEP, and additional SOCSO incentives. Backed by an RM30 million allocation, the government has introduced an RM1,500 monthly allowance for six months, designed to assist employers in integrating over 3,300 job seekers from vulnerable backgrounds.

Under Meraque’s programme, 10 to 20 drone pilot placements will be offered in Selangor and Johor, with implementation set to begin in Q1 2025. Meraque aims to create sustainable career pathways, with opportunities for programme extensions for high-performing participants.

“Our vision is to give individuals from diverse backgrounds, including rehabilitated individuals, the opportunity to become skilled drone engineers and operators,” said Razalee Ismail, chief executive officer of Meraque.

Coming from humble beginnings himself, Razalee said he understands the aspiration to improve and achieve something greater. He added, “By offering a second chance to ex-convicts, we are not only transforming their lives but also building a stronger, more inclusive workforce. I am fully committed to making this vision a reality and supporting these individuals as they embark on a new path toward meaningful and impactful careers.”

Since 2017, Malaysia’s Corporate Smart Internship (CSI) initiative for the Parole Program has enabled District Parole and Community Service Officers to secure employment for individuals on parole (ODPs), offering theoretical and practical training to boost their employability.

Meraque’s partnership with CSI is an extension of this commitment, providing training and hands-on experience to help ex-convicts rebuild their lives as skilled drone pilots, thereby supporting their rehabilitation and enhancing community integration with long-term professional development.

Through its Social Reintegration Programme, Meraque reinforces its role as a corporate pioneer in social transformation, showcasing how corporate collaboration with national reintegration initiatives can foster meaningful change and contribute to Malaysia’s vision of an inclusive economy.
