The Asian Institute of Chartered Bankers (AICB), together with the Association of Banks in Malaysia (ABM), will be hosting the inaugural Malaysian Banking Conference themed “Banking on Change: Turning the ESG Momentum into Action” to discuss ESG-related issues centred on climate change and risk in Malaysia, giving a heightened focus to its issues, challenges, and opportunities. Yang Berhormat Senator Tengku Datuk Seri Utama Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz, Minister of Finance, is set to deliver a special address at this conference, scheduled for 13 September at Shangri-La Hotel, Kuala Lumpur.

The conference presents a timely opportunity for discourse among key banking and financial industry leaders given the heightened focus on ESG and the need for a stronger collective commitment to expedite sustainable development towards a better and greener economy. It is expected to attract over 500 delegates from local financial institutions.
AICB Chief Executive Edward Ling said: “Recognising an urgent need for tangible climate action, governments, and industries, including the financial sector, have begun to reflect on their respective ESG strategies, frameworks, and standards to adapt and implement effective mitigation measures to meet their respective ESG targets. AICB, as the sole professional body for bankers in Malaysia, plays a key role in supporting our banking workforce through continuous capacity-building initiatives, including platforms such as this Conference and various other thought leadership initiatives and continuing professional development programmes.”
Kalpana Sambasivamurthy, ABM Executive Director, said: “ABM and its member banks are cognisant that the challenge of transitioning to an ESG-friendly and sustainable economy goes beyond financials. Through live panel discussions and interviews, over 30 experts across various Malaysian banking and finance functions will share their insights, experience, and knowledge on their ESG initiatives, strategies, and standards to effectively mitigate the adverse effects of climate change and make a just transition to net zero.
