Tokyo tops global list as premier New Year’s Eve destination

    Digital travel platform Agoda has revealed that Tokyo has ascended to the top spot as the most sought-after destination for New Year’s Eve celebrations, based on accommodation searches.

    This marks a notable change from the previous year when Taipei held the leading position. Following Tokyo in popularity are Bangkok, Taipei, Pattaya, and Osaka, reflecting a diverse range of traveller preferences.

    Bangkok and Taipei continue to attract travellers with their lively festivities and cultural richness, while Pattaya appeals to those seeking beachside revelry, and Osaka is renowned for its culinary delights.

    Agoda’s data also indicates a significant increase in domestic travel within Japan, with accommodation searches rising by 23 per cent. Tokyo leads as the preferred destination for domestic travellers, followed by Osaka, Kyoto, Yokohama, and Okinawa Main Island.

    For Japanese tourists considering international travel, the top choices are Taipei, Seoul, Bangkok, Pattaya, and Hong Kong.
