Toyota’s participation at IGEM underscores its belief in the necessity of multiple pathways to achieve net zero emissions, highlighting the company’s commitment to speed and scalability.

“Here at Toyota, we are committed to delivering practical solutions that meet the evolving needs of our customers while supporting the nation’s carbon reduction goals. Our Multi-Pathway approach demonstrates that there is no single solution to sustainability, but a combination of technologies that offer immediate impact and long-term potential,” said UMWT president, Datuk Ravindran K.

The automaker’s multi-pathway approach incorporates a range of technologies—from hybrid electric vehicles to hydrogen fuel cell technology—designed to immediately reduce emissions across various mobility scenarios.

“By embracing this full spectrum of innovations, we are ensuring that Malaysians have access to mobility options that are not only environmentally friendly but also reliable and accessible. Our participation in IGEM reinforces our dedication to contributing to a greener future, in line with Malaysia’s vision for sustainable development,” added Ravindran.

Two key innovations showcased at IGEM are the Mirai hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle and the Innova Zenix Hybrid Electric, both pivotal to Toyota’s long-term commitment to sustainable transportation.

Leading the Future of Mobility at Mobility-X

Toyota’s leadership in the sustainable mobility space will be further underscored on Thursday (10 October), when Pras Ganesh, executive vice president of Toyota Motor Asia, delivers a keynote address at Mobility-X—a key segment of IGEM dedicated to the future of transportation.

This session will gather thought leaders and innovators to discuss how integrated mobility solutions can address the climate crisis while driving the transition towards smarter, cleaner transport systems across Asia.

During his keynote, Pras Ganesh will outline Toyota’s commitment and initiatives towards achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 through their multi-pathway approach. “We believe that by offering the Multi-Pathway technologies, from fuel-efficient ICEs including those powered by alternative energy like biofuel, hybrid electric vehicles, battery electric vehicles, and hydrogen-powered vehicles, we can help accelerate the region’s journey to a sustainable future where no one is left behind,” he said.

Pras will also highlight the importance of addressing emissions throughout the entire vehicle life cycle.

    A Green Mobility Imperative

The transportation sector, responsible for a significant portion of global carbon emissions, is rapidly shifting towards green mobility. Toyota has been a leader in this transition, having sold over 23 million electrified vehicles globally. The company’s long-standing investment in hybrid technology has not only reduced emissions but has also paved the way for advancements in battery electric and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles.

In Malaysia, Toyota continues to expand its portfolio of electrified vehicles, supporting the government’s efforts to reduce carbon emissions. Toyota’s presence at IGEM serves as another milestone in this journey, showcasing scalable, practical solutions tailored to meet both consumer needs and national environmental goals.

IGEM 2024 will be officially launched tomorrow by the Prime Minister of Malaysia, with high-ranking officials such as the Deputy Prime Minister, the Minister of Economy, and the Minister of Natural Resources, Environment, and Climate Change expected to attend.
