Pos Malaysia Berhad (Pos Malaysia), the national post and parcel service provider, today celebrated the opening of its milestone 50th Pos Shop, located on Jalan Dato Keramat in Penang. The momentous occasion was officiated by the Chief Minister of Penang, YAB Chow Kon Yeow, lending prestige to the celebratory event.
This newest Pos Shop represents a significant milestone in an amazing transformational journey for Pos Malaysia as it continues to innovate and adapt to today’s consumers and their evolving needs. It also marks the successful delivery of the company’s ambitious goal of opening 50 Pos Shop locations nationwide.
Collectively, these outlets have served over 630,000 customers and sold 80,000 bottles of water, 140,000 buns, 52,000 servings of soft-serve ice cream, 153,000 pieces of pau, 43,000 packs of nasi lemak, and many other wonderful and carefully curated convenience store items. Some of these items, such as pau and nasi lemak, are proudly produced by local SMEs, reflecting Pos Malaysia’s commitment to supporting local businesses while curating a diverse and convenient retail experience for Malaysians.
Charles Brewer, group chief executive officer of Pos Malaysia, expressed his enthusiasm, “We are delighted to unveil our latest Pos Shop outlet to the Georgetown community, offering a convenient and comprehensive retail experience that goes beyond traditional post and parcel services. The Dato Keramat store is our fifth location in Penang, underscoring Pos Malaysia’s commitment to bringing our services closer to Penangites, enhancing the way we serve them and ensuring we remain very relevant.”
Chow Kon Yeow lauded Pos Malaysia’s efforts, stating, “The opening of the Pos Shop Dato Keramat outlet showcases Pos Malaysia’s dedication to its transformation efforts, adapting to the changing needs of customers in an increasingly digital world. By integrating modern retail offerings with the reliability of traditional postal services, Pos Malaysia bridges the gap between the physical and digital realms to provide greater convenience and accessibility for customers from all walks of life. I commend Pos Malaysia for this refreshing and innovative concept, and I believe Pos Shop will undoubtedly benefit the people of Penang and our local business community for years to come.”
Spanning over 800 square feet, Pos Shop Dato Keramat combines a fully operational post office with a cozy and welcoming retail space. It offers services such as parcel drop, bill payments, mobile and e-wallet reloads, and a range of everyday essentials. The outlet also features the popular Pos Kafe, where customers can enjoy freshly brewed coffee and light ‘ready-to-eat’ snacks. This innovative ‘Shop in Shop’ concept revitalises traditional post offices into versatile retail spaces, creating a welcoming environment where customers can shop, relax, and complete their daily errands – all under one roof.
The first Pos Shop outlet was opened on Jalan Medan Tuanku, Kuala Lumpur, in May 2023. Since then, Pos Shop has rapidly expanded its footprint across both Peninsular Malaysia and East Malaysia. In Penang, in addition to the newly opened Dato Keramat outlet, Pos Shop can also be found in Perai, Kepala Batas, Batu Maung, and Gelugor.
Brewer emphasised the significance of this achievement, stating, “Reaching the milestone of 50 Pos Shop outlets nationwide is a testament to our dedication to reimagining both the customer journey and their experience, contributing to the local economy, and enriching the communities we serve. But this is just the beginning.
“As we look to the future, we remain guided by our purpose – to connect lives and businesses for a better tomorrow. We will continue to push the boundaries of innovation to enhance our services and deliver delightful experiences to everyone who interacts with Pos Malaysia,” he added.
In conjunction with the upcoming Chinese New Year, Pos Shop has introduced a festive new menu featuring the refreshing Tangerine Sunshine beverage and other tasty treats. Customers can enjoy special promotional prices on these new items, along with other exciting offers, as part of the ‘Promo Paling Ong’ campaign. The promotion is available across all 50 Pos Shop outlets from now until 28 February.
