Pos Malaysia expands retail footprint to East Malaysia with first Pos Shop in Kota Kinabalu

Pos Malaysia Berhad, the country’s national postal and parcel service provider, has officially launched its first Pos Shop in East Malaysia, marking a significant expansion of its innovative retail concept. The new outlet, located at Pejabat Pos Besar Kota Kinabalu on Jalan Segama, was inaugurated by Sabah’s Minister of Industrial Development and Entrepreneurship, YB Datuk Phoong Jin Zhe.

This milestone underscores Pos Malaysia’s commitment to modernising its services and enhancing convenience for customers in Sabah and Sarawak. The move follows the success of Pos Shops in Peninsular Malaysia and is part of the company’s ongoing transformation efforts.

Speaking at the launch event last Friday (7 February), Pos Malaysia’s Group CEO, Charles Brewer, highlighted the strategic significance of the expansion. He said, “Following the success of Pos Shop in Peninsular Malaysia, we are delighted to bring this concept to Kota Kinabalu. This outlet is particularly meaningful as it is not only our first location in East Malaysia but also in Sabah, the Land Below the Wind. It reaffirms Pos Malaysia’s commitment to bringing our services closer to Sabahans, enhancing the way we serve them, and ensuring that we remain highly relevant.”

Brewer also expressed confidence that the new Pos Shop would serve as a catalyst for future retail innovations across Sabah and Sarawak.

YB Datuk Phoong lauded Pos Malaysia’s forward-thinking initiative, noting that Pos Shop is a transformative concept that integrates modern retail convenience with traditional postal services. “By reimagining the post office as a versatile, customer-centric space, Pos Malaysia is enhancing accessibility and convenience for all Malaysians. What stands out most is the company’s support for entrepreneurs by featuring a selection of products sourced from local businesses in Pos Shop, contributing to the local economy while catering to community needs,” he said.

Covering an area of over 2,200 square feet, Pos Shop Kota Kinabalu combines a fully functional post office with a modern and inviting retail environment. The outlet provides a variety of essential services, including parcel drop, bill payments, mobile and e-wallet reloads, and the sale of everyday convenience items.

One of the standout features of the Pos Shop concept is the inclusion of Pos Kafe, which offers freshly brewed coffee and ‘ready-to-eat’ snacks, transforming the traditional post office into a vibrant retail hub where customers can complete errands, shop, and relax—all in one location.

Since the opening of the first Pos Shop in Kuala Lumpur in May 2023, the concept has rapidly expanded across Malaysia. The recent launch of the 50th Pos Shop in Penang marked a major milestone in Pos Malaysia’s retail strategy. Collectively, Pos Shop outlets have served over 630,000 customers, with popular items such as pau and nasi lemak being locally produced by SMEs, reinforcing Pos Malaysia’s commitment to supporting homegrown businesses.

To celebrate the Chinese New Year season, Pos Shop has introduced a special festive menu, including the refreshing Tangerine Sunshine beverage. As part of the ‘Promo Paling Ong’ campaign, customers can enjoy exclusive promotional prices on these festive offerings and other selected items at all 50 Pos Shop locations nationwide until 28 February.

Looking ahead, Brewer reaffirmed Pos Malaysia’s commitment to continuous innovation in retail and postal services. “As we look to the future, we remain guided by our purpose—to connect lives and businesses for a better tomorrow. We will continue to push the boundaries of innovation to enhance our services and deliver delightful experiences to everyone who interacts with Pos Malaysia.” News Hub Asia's new seal logo is a black spot with the letters 'NHA' inscribed in the centre with three diagonal dots in white.
