The successful launch of X-KIOSK, which integrates technology into Malaysians’ lifestyle, is a result of collaborations and partnerships with GoBiz by U Mobile, TNG Digital, dobiQueen and ECO-Shop. The virtual launch today (30 March 2021) was attended by more than 70 participants including partners and guests of OpenSys.
Although the adoption of e-commerce and digital payments have accelerated in the recent years, there are still groups of communities, particularly in the B40 segment that are not as digitally connected as other communities. Cash is still the preferred method of payment as these communities may lack the means of bank accounts, cards and e-wallets for payment purposes.
Understanding the need to address the pain points of the underserved communities, OpenSys has developed X-KIOSK and launched its services today. The launch of X-KIOSK brings a digital lifestyle to the communities as it presents an easy alternative to settling payments. Consumers can conduct payment services for themselves or on behalf of others using the kiosk for prepaid reload, e-Wallet top-up, SIM card replacement, sale of SIM card, bill payment and loan repayment.
Eric Lim, Chief Executive Officer of OpenSys, said the company believes the X-KIOSK is well positioned to support the Malaysian government’s MyDigital initiatives to encourage more Malaysians to adopt a digital payment lifestyle.
“We are delighted with this key milestone as X-KIOSK will bring great convenience to the underserved communities for a better digital lifestyle. Settling payments is easy now, as X-KIOSK offers the most comprehensive payment modes in cash, credit/debit cards and e-Wallets. It is also a platform to convert cash to e-Wallet for the underserved communities to participate in the digital economy,” said Lim.
Up to 120 units of X-KIOSK will be deployed this year in high traffic community-based lifestyle locations such as retail outlets (including ECO-Shop and dobiQueen), convenience stores, residential buildings, universities and colleges.
X-KIOSK also serves as an extended payment service channel without the need of brick-and-mortar investment from participating merchants. It provides a complementary physical presence at community locations, making it a cost-effective channel for building brand presence on the ground. It will also help to increase footfall to participating premise owners, bringing vibrancy to their store fronts, adding more value and convenience to their customers. OpenSys is also looking forward to collaborating with more merchants, billers, issuers and premise owners to provide more convenience to the communities.
