Malaysian Parliament: Resolving labour shortage in the country

    Wangsa Maju MP Datin Paduka Tan Yee Kew inquired the Minister of Human Resources to state the strategies and plans to help Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) resolve the issue of labour shortage as many foreign workers have returned to their country of origin during the MCO. Furthermore, whether the Government intends to facilitate and expedite the application process for foreign workers for a temporary period so that the shortage can be resolved immediately.

    Deputy Minister of Human Resources Datuk Awang Hashim stated that the government was about to announce vacancies for the oil palm plantation sector as it is a critical sector with a labour deficit.

    The cross-sector initiatives will also assist employers who requested staff to fill in for those who are unable to return due to MCO. In addition, the MyFutureJob portal will aid local workers in looking for post-MCO jobs and will officially authorise illegal immigrants to work.
