Lynas Malaysia recently marked the celebration of Chinese New Year with a visit to the Jabor Old Folks Home as part of their ongoing community engagement programme. The event was attended by over 250 people including senior citizens, special needs children, members of the community, employees of Lynas Malaysia and their families.
The event gave all attendees the opportunity to spend time with the elderly residents, persons with disabilities (PWDs) and orphans, and bring joy to their lives through cultural performances including a lion dance and appearances by Tsai Shen Yeh or Cai Shen – the God of Fortune, and the A&W mascot – Rooty the Great Root Bear. There were also plenty of good food to add to the merriment throughout the day.
Mimi Afzan Afza, Vice President of People and Culture of Lynas Malaysia, said, “Chinese New Year is an important celebration in the Malaysian culture, and we are honoured to have had the opportunity to share this special moment with all the special people in the community including the elderly residents of Jabor Old Folks Home, the PWDs from the Alor Akar Home for Special Children, and the orphans from the Rapha Children Home.
“Chinese New Year is about family, and it is our privilege to bring a little bit of happiness into their lives and to show them that they are not forgotten,” continued Mimi Afzan who presented mock cheques and hampers representing the latest contribution from Lynas Malaysia to the community.
During the event, Lynas Malaysia donated RM8,000 to Jabor Old Folks Home, to support the essential work they do in caring for the elderly in the community.
