The Drawing Room at Yap Ah Shak House in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia has transformed into a sanctuary of grace and resilience hosting the first-ever Malaysian solo exhibition by internationally celebrated sculptor from Barcelona, Joan Artigas Planas.
Organised by Libero Productions and Gallery des Artistes, this exhibition with the theme ‘Ode to Women’ offers an intimate look at the profound artistry that has captured the hearts of European art circles.
A serendipitous collaboration sparked this creative endeavour. “It was a beautiful coincidence,” shares Otilia Andrei, the event creator and manager of Libero Productions. “When Mrs. Edith Ho, owner of Gallery des Artistes, mentioned Artigas’ trip to Asia, we saw an opportunity. With the support of the Spanish Embassy and our partners, we brought this exhibition to life.”
The collection strikes a delicate balance between the figurative and the abstract, a signature of Artigas’ celebrated style. Through his sculptures, the essence of womanhood is explored with sensuality and strength. His latest series, depicting women peacefully absorbed in reading, is a centrepiece that invites quiet contemplation. These works evoke a serene yet empowering reflection on personal growth amidst the complexities of life.
Artigas’ ability to convey universal emotions is vividly on display. His work merges softness and determination, encapsulating a spectrum of human experience that transcends cultural boundaries. For Kuala Lumpur, this exhibition is not just an artistic milestone but a cultural dialogue, reinforcing the city’s growing stature as a hub for world-class art.
“This exhibition bridges cultures, highlighting universal themes that resonate deeply with Malaysia’s diverse audiences,” remarks Andrei. “Artigas’ work sparks meaningful conversations, highlighting the strength, elegance, and resilience that define the human spirit.”
Running from 16 to 24 November, this free-to-enter exhibition is a must-see for art enthusiasts and cultural connoisseurs alike. Artigas Planas’ work is a testament to the beauty and complexity of life, promising a deeply emotive and thought-provoking experience for all who visit.
