Abstract artist, Mulaika Nordin, said, “So much of the emphasis on industries that focus on women are about the first layer, but if you’re able to go deeper, you’ll be able to understand what beauty really is and you’ll find something that resonates with you.”
Mulaika’s latest artworks are currently on display at an art exhibition in Kuala Lumpur to celebrate women’s voices in arts.
Curated by Art+ Contemporary Gallery in conjunction with International Women’s Day, “Echoes” is an exquisite exhibition of diverse artistic expressions by six talented women in the contemporary art scene.
Apart from Mulaika, artists featuring their remarkable works and unique talents include animator and artist Erica Eng; recent fine arts graduate Law Siew Poh; hyper-realistic art artist Margaret Lau; artist-curator-activist SC Chin; and fine artist Sofia Haron.
According to Art+ Contemporary, the curated selection of artwork spanning various mediums and themes at “Echoes” is also a powerful reflection of the artist’s individuality and creativity.
Mulaika said, “My two paintings showcased at Echoes, ‘The Cure’ and ‘Pangs’, reflect a return to myself both in terms of techniques and subject matter. I believe that it’s important for women and everyone for that matter to be able to return to themselves.”
June Cheong, the Director at Art+ Contemporary, when met at the exhibition’s opening reception on 9 March (Saturday), affirms the Gallery’s commitment to fostering inclusivity and uplifting contributions of women artists in the arts.
“Through this exhibition, we aim to spark meaningful conversations about women’s changing and multifaceted identity within the art world and beyond. We are proud to host a platform to showcase the richness of these talents within our community,” said June.
The “Echoes” art exhibition is open to public, and will run from 7 March to 10 April 2024 at the Art+ Contemporary Gallery, Level 2, Bangsar Village II, Kuala Lumpur.
