Following the decision by the National Security Council (NSC) to allow students from Institutions of Higher Learning to travel home for the Hari Raya Holidays (except for Sarawak), UPNM has taken the initiative to facilitate the students’ movement based on the phased movement control mechanism stipulated by the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE). The movement phase starts from 7-12 May 2021 (travelling back to their respective homes) and from 15-20 May 2021 (returning to campus). To ensure a smooth movement, the 2,147 students will start their journey home from 7 May 2021 based on the schedule set by UPNM. 797 students will make their journey home on specially chartered buses, 1285 students will be fetched by their families using family vehicles while 47 students are going back on commercial flights. UPNM wishes to express its gratitude to the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) for helping 18 needy students from Sabah return
home on RMAF’s transport aircraft.
UPNM’s Vice Chancellor, Lieutenant General Dato’ Hasagaya bin Abdullah together with the university’s higher management were present at UPNM Campus, Sungai Besi Camp to oversee the preparations and flagged off the students’ first phase travel back home at 9.00 am on 7 May 2021. The Vice Chancellor reminded the students to always follow the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) and adhere to the new norm in the effort to prevent further outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic during the Hari Raya holidays. The Vice Chancellor also reiterated UPNM’s commitment and concern in ensuring the safety and well-being of students who remained on campus during the Hari Raya holidays.
