Are you team Tart Nenas or Kuih Sam-perit? Choose your winner this Hari Raya! Yoodo – Malaysia’s first truly customisable and 100% digital telco – brings a cheeky twist to the typical Hari Raya ad with their special Pilihan Riang Raya video.
The fantasy electoral race pits 2 famous kuih raya against each other – the pineapple tart and kuih semperit – as each party tries to win voters over with enticing promises and some good old fashioned smear videos. Both candidates even have their own Instagram accounts where potential voters can check out the respective party’s manifestos.
Commenting on the campaign, Chow Tuck Mun, Head of Yoodo shared that the video is in line with Yoodo’s values. “At Yoodo, we’re all about choices. Our users can pick and customise every aspect of their mobile plans, and so we wanted to apply that same element to our 2021 Raya video – literally giving the audience a pilihan raya – with the added touch of Yoodo’s signature brand of cheekiness.”
Pilihan Riang Raya is a full-fledged election campaign, with both parties’ Instagram accounts highlighting their respective backstories, character and personalities. In this kuih-verse, Tart Nenas is a traditionalist who holds conservative ideals, while Sam-perit is a modern candidate with more progressive views.
“After the quiet festival celebrations in 2020, we knew we wanted to do something different from the usual Raya video tropes, and instead create a video that sparks discussion and healthy debate,” Tuck Mun continued. “We hope this interactive Raya campaign lifts and adds cheer to the general mood as we celebrate the festivities together.”
