15 out of 27 participating Malaysian organisations win at the AEA after being selected to represent Malaysia following their triumph at the 2020 National Energy Awards
Fifteen Malaysian organisations received various accolades at the ASEAN Energy Awards (AEA) 2020. The awards are the highest recognition bestowed on Southeast Asia public and private companies for their contribution to energy development in the ASEAN regions. Participated by all ASEAN member countries, the Award recipients were chosen based on their achievements during the competition period.
The notable win demonstrates Malaysia’s proactive involvement in the energy efficiency and renewable energy sectors. It also acknowledges the diligent undertakings of companies to ensure energy efficiency and sustainability in the region as well as continuously furthering the country’s progress and growth towards a more sustainable future.
“Our work to improve energy management in Top Glove Factory 29 has resulted in a 20 percent reduction in energy consumption from 2017 to 2019 and a reduction in carbon emissions of more than 4,000 tonnes per year over the same period,” said Top Glove’s Senior Manager, Chia Hock Yi.
Ir. Au Chong Hun from Primetech Engineers Sdn Bhd, who supervised Menara Weld’s award-winning retro-fitting project said, “Instead of replacing ageing chillers like-for-like, we wanted to innovate. We did this by combining the tower and mall chiller plants into a central plant with a highly efficient variable primary flow pumping system. This out of the box thinking has contributed to a total energy reduction of 38.7 percent.”
The event, held in Da Nang, Vietnam, was coordinated by ASEAN Centre of Energy; an entity of ASEAN. The award ceremony took place virtually on November 19 and was broadcasted live on the ASEAN Centre for Energy’s Youtube, LinkedIn and Facebook pages.
Other Malaysian winners include Pertubuhan Akitek Malaysia (PAM Centre), Menara KEN TTDI, Amcorp Power Sdn Bhd, Indah Water Konsortium Sdn Bhd, LCDA Tower/Menara Pelita, Menara Weld and The Weld Shopping Centre, and Green Energy Office (GEO) – Malaysian Green Technology and Climate Change Centre.
First runner up organisations in their categories were Persada Plus Complex and UKM-YSD Chair for Sustainable Development. At the same time, Ban Hoe Seng (Auto) Honda Showroom and Care Centre, Hospital Jelebu, Top Glove Factory F29, Sime Darby Plantation, Concord Green Energy Sdn Bhd, and Angsana Johor Bahru Mall were the second runner ups in their categories.
Winners received trophies, plaques and high-profile honours at the awards presentation ceremony, attended by the Ministers of Energy of ASEAN member countries and other delegates.
Besides the mentioned winners, 12 other Malaysian organisations participated in AEA. All 27 companies selected to represent Malaysia were recipients of the recently concluded National Energy Awards (NEA) 2020.
